INXS celebrates 40 years of Listen Like Thieves with a deluxe reissue featuring a new stereo mix, unreleased demos, and a live set. See how the band is honoring their breakthrough album.
In 2025, INXS commemorates the 40th anniversary of their seminal album, Listen Like Thieves, a record that marked a pivotal moment in their career and left an indelible mark on the rock music landscape.
The Breakthrough Album
Released on October 14, 1985, Listen Like Thieves was the band's fifth studio album. It achieved significant commercial success, reaching number one on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart and peaking at number 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album featured the hit single "What You Need," which became INXS's first top-five hit in the United States.
To celebrate this milestone, INXS has announced an expanded 40th-anniversary reissue of Listen Like Thieves. The deluxe edition includes a brand-new stereo mix of the original album by Giles Martin and Paul Hicks, 19 previously unreleased demos and outtakes, and a live set recorded at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1986. Giles Martin, who oversaw the new mixes at Abbey Road, expressed his admiration for the album, stating, "To me, this album in some ways has more depth to it, and I love it."
Listen Like Thieves is often regarded as the album where INXS honed their signature blend of rock, new wave, and funk. The success of tracks like "What You Need" and "Listen Like Thieves" showcased the band's evolving sound and set the stage for their subsequent global success with the album Kick.
